We just finished watching Leaves of Grass. This movie is sort of independent romantic comedy meets Weeds. Also Edward Norton & Edward Norton play two identical twins, genius & pot head. Sounds dumb right? Except it's got two Edward Nortons. It's free-wheeling and charming in a weird way, but loses control of the tone every once in a while and pops out a few movie-ruiningly bad scenes, mostly those revolving around absurd, out of place violence.
He:
- At one point in this movie we both said, and meant un-ironically, "this is my new favorite movie ever."
- Watching Edward Norton green screen talk to himself is really fun. It pretty much doesn't matter what he is saying.
- Guess who else is in this movie? Steve Earl. And a lot of Townes Van Zandt('s music). They are both great. Well, then Steve Earl's character essentially ruins the crap out of this movie by shooting Edward Norton #1 in the back with a crossbow.
- This movie has a weird relationship with Jews. On the one hand, it's got lots of anti-anti semitism. That is, even though most of the characters are huge hicks, they really don't seem to be racist -- It's the movie that's sort of racist. Richard Drefus shows up as a drug-dealing jew who delivers a long lecture on why he gives "all his money to israel." And he pretty much also ruins the movie by trying to kill Edward Norton #2 with a menorah.
- I still think you should see this movie.
She:
- Even though it was stupid, it still might be my un-ironically favorite movie, if not of ever, than at least of the past month or so.
- One of the reasons I like Eddie is because he looks so normal, not like a movie star. You get to feel not shallow for liking him, but really, he is still cute. In this movie you get to see him as two different cute men. That's a plus.
- Guess who else is in the movie? Kerrie Russell. He doesn't care because he didn't watch Felicity throughout his formative years, but I did and I like her, even if her character does quote her own poetry, which I think is totally not okay.
- I wish the movie didn't have to start killing everyone because there are some really likable characters in there. Well, really just one likable character, but I hated to see him die.
- I sort of suspect that most of the actors in this movie signed on to the project without reading the script in its entirety.
